programs.
New York – More than 400 guests attended
and raised over $1.4 million at the 48th
Annual Inner-City Scholarship Fund
FRIENDS Gala on Tuesday, May 13 at
Cipriani 42nd Street in Manhattan.
Inner-City is the city’s leading
non-profit organization dedicated to
providing tuition assistance to
low-income students attending Catholic
schools within the Archdiocese of New
York.
His Excellency, Bishop Edmund Whalen,
attended the event and Martha
MacCallum, news host for Fox News
was the evening’s emcee. This year’s
Gala Co-Chairs were Missy and Tim
Muccia and
Elise and Jim McVeigh.
“It is always our focus to determine how
we can help as many students and
families as possible. The need is great,
so I thank you for your hard work and
dedication,” said Peter Grauer,
President of Inner-City Board of
Trustees when addressing his fellow
trustees
“At the core of Inner-City’s mission is
to provide scholarships for students in
need so they can access the
life-changing gift of a high-quality
Catholic education,” said Jill Lloyd,
Executive Director of Inner-City
Scholarship Fund. “Thank you for your
generosity and for embracing our efforts
to deliver opportunity and hope.”
“To the students past, present and
future, you are the heart of this
organization. Keep dreaming big. Keep
reaching higher. We are here to walk
beside you, to cheer you on, and to
invest in the extraordinary people you
are becoming,” said Tim Muccia,
Gala Co-Chair.
The event featured an invocation from
Erick S. a second grader from St.
John Chrysostom in the Bronx,
sponsored by gala chairs, Elise
and Jim McVeigh and remarks by
Raymond Castillo, a senior and
Inner-City scholarship recipient
attending Fordham Prep in the Bronx.
Castillo, who is from the South Bronx
and raised by his hardworking Guatemalan
mother, credits his Catholic education,
beginning at Immaculate Conception
Elementary School, with instilling in
him the values of faith, integrity,
humility, and hard work and is eternally
grateful for his scholarship provided by
his sponsors Missy and Tim Muccia, for
making it possible. In the fall,
Castillo will continue his Catholic
education and attend Fairfield
University to study Mechanical
Engineering with hopes of eventually
improving his mother’s community in
Guatemala
In addition to an evening filled with
dining and dancing, guests also enjoyed
performances by talented students from
St. Raymond Elementary in the Bronx,
Archbishop Stepinac in White Plains
and School of the Holy Child in Rye.
