Black Tie International: Little Shop of Horrors

Blue Hill Troupe presents Little Shop of Horrors

Blue Hill Troupe presents Little Shop of Horrors

When Seymour, a down-and-out floral assistant, discovers a mysterious man-eating plant, he names it after the girl he loves and offers up her sadistic ex-boyfriend as its first meal. The plant tempts Seymour with fame and fortune, but before long, it grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore bent on world domination. Can Seymour save his girlfriend? Can he save himself? Can he save the world from the inexorable appetite of "Audrey II"? One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a household name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. Charming, tuneful and hilarious, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Little Shop of Horrors never fails to entertain.

The Blue Hill Troupe is in its 87th season of bringing high-quality theater performances to New York City audiences while raising money for a different city charity every year, and has raised over three million dollars since its founding in 1924. For the 2010/2011 season, the Troupe has selected The Carter Burden Center for the Aging as the beneficiary of its performances. Hailing from all walks of life and spanning several generations, Troupers donate their time and energy to produce two full theatrical productions a year: a Broadway musical each fall and a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta each spring.

The Carter Burden Center for the Aging, Inc. is a non-profit agency established in 1971 by the late Carter Burden when he was a New York City Councilman.  The mission is to promote the well-being of older adults through a broad array of direct social services and volunteer programs oriented to individual, family and community needs.  The Carter Burden Center is dedicated to supporting the efforts of older people to live independently, safely and with dignity.
