62nd Viennese Opera Ball
The 62nd Viennese Opera Ball,
held under the auspices of the U.S.-Austrian Chamber of
Commerce and the gracious patronage of the Federal Minister
for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Austria, H.E. Sebastian Kurz, takes place on Friday,
February 10th, 2017 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
Long considered the most
prestigious Viennese Opera Ball outside of Vienna, this
annual white tie charity gala draws an international
audience that includes diplomats and dignitaries,
international corporations and professionals. The Ball
celebrates the cultural and economic Austrian-American
relationships and brings traditional Vienna to the City that
never sleeps.
Each year the Viennese Opera
Ball supports charitable projects that are connected to
communities in New York or Vienna. The proceeds of the 62nd
Viennese Opera Ball benefit 'Leonard Bernstein - A New
Yorker in Vienna', a special project of the Jewish Museum
Vienna in cooperation with the U.S. Friends of the Jewish
Museum of Vienna.
For the very first time an
orchestra from Vienna, the Strauss Festival Orchestra Vienna
will lead through the night in the Grand Ballroom. The
artistic director Daniel Serafin has planned many musical
surprises throughout the evening and secured performances by
Metropolitan Opera Stars Eric Owens and Stephen Costello,
opera singer Sarah Joy Miller and many more.
Amongst many highlights are
the ceremonial opening by a choreographed performance of
debutantes and their escorts, the presentation of the flags
by the West Point Color Guards and the midnight Quadrille.
This year the dinner menu will be selected and prepared by
Michelin Star Chef and Austrian-born Wolfgang Ban. During
the Ball, guests will have the opportunity to bid on elegant
silent auction items and support the special cause of the
Ball with their donation.
After 1am, the Ball continues
at the Tanz Bar in the Jade, Astor and Bastille Room until
4.00am where guests can continue to dance, or relax and
listen to a Jazz band and a prominent New York DJ. They can
gain new strength at the late-night Austrian specialty
buffet after a long evening of celebrations. |
