The 13th
Annual Spirit of Anne Frank Awards will be
presented at a gala dinner and ceremony at the
Pierre Hotel in New
York City on June 15 in
honor of the 80th anniversary of
the birth of Anne Frank.
This year also
marks the 50th anniversary of the
release of George Stevens’ 1959 film, “The Diary
of Anne Frank.” Twentieth Century Fox Home
Entertainment will celebrate this occasion by
issuing a 50th Anniversary
DVD/Blue-ray. The DVD bonus features will focus
on the film legacy and the process that brought
this important story to screen. The 1959 film
was nominated for 8 Academy Awards and received
3, including the Oscar for Best Supporting
Actress by Shelley Winters.
The AFC USA is
proud to honor Emmy and Peabody Award-winning
filmmaker and author
George Stevens
Jr., who worked on the 1959 Diary of
Anne Frank as a production assistant to his
father, George Stevens. Mr. Stevens Jr. has had
a distinguished career on both the film industry
and the civil rights arena. The Writers Guild
of America gave him its Paul Selvin Award for
writing that embodies civil rights and
liberties. In addition, The NAACP Legal Defense
Fund honored Stevens’ “commitment to making
films that raise social consciousness and
examine human values.” For more information on
