On May 19th, 2010,
the 15th Anniversary of Gilda's Club
NYC
will be celebrated with over 250 notables at
The Plaza Hotel
for their 3rd Annual Benefit Luncheon
Celebrating Women Working & Living with Cancer.
The funds raised will help Gilda's Club NYC keep
Gilda's legacy alive by continuing
its mission to provide social and emotional support for people with
cancer,
their families and friends in the New York City
area.
Gilda's Club NYC will be presenting
awards to outstanding individuals
who embody the Gilda's Club spirit. This year’s
honorees are
Sheri S. McCoy, Worldwide Chairman, Pharmaceuticals
Group,
Johnson & Johnson and Jenny Allen, writer
and performer of
I Got Sick Then I Got Better. McCoy will
receive the Red Door Award,
in recognition of her contributions to improving the
lives of those who
have been touched by cancer. Allen will receive the
“It’s Always Something Award,”
which Gilda’s Club awards annually to a woman who has been vocal
and public about her cancer experience and has shown
others
how to live with cancer. WABC-TV’s anchor Sade
Baderinwa will serve as host.
GCNYC was
founded in 1995 in honor of Gilda Radner, the
brilliant and
beloved comedienne for whom love, laughter and community were powerful
medicines in her own battle with cancer. For 15 years,
GCNYC has
offered a
place where men, women, teens and children living with cancer – and their
families and friends – can join together to build
social and emotional
support as an essential supplement to medical care. Thanks to the
tireless
support of our friends, family, and individual and
corporate donors, we have been
able to do all of this free of charge.
GCNYC
has since grown to a community of
over 6,000 members, and spawned a national movement
with over 20 affiliate clubhouses currently open in
the United States and Canada.
Tickets to the event are $250. For
