Southampton, NY – “Kites For a Cure,” a family kite
fly benefit on Coopers Beach in Southampton, NY, to
raise money for lung cancer research, will take
place on Saturday, May 29, 2010 from 4:00 to 6:00
p.m. The event is hosted by Uniting Against Lung
Cancer. Kites, snacks and family fun will be
available to all guests for a $25 donation in
advance or for $30 at the event. (The rain date for
the kite fly is Sunday, May 30 from 4:00 to 6:00
p.m.) Parking is free.
More than 500 families are expected to join in the
fun at this fourth annual Memorial Day kite fly.
Guests will be able to decorate their kites at the
site – drawing pictures or memorial messages – and
take advantage of the afternoon’s off-shore breezes
to lift their kites to the sky.
Uniting Against Lung Cancer was founded in 2001 in
memory of Joan Scarangello, a Southampton resident
and non-smoker who lost her battle with lung
cancer. In just seven years, the foundation has
awarded over $10 million in research grants into
diagnosis, treatment and a cure for lung cancer.
Lung cancer is the nation’s #1 cancer killer,
claiming more than 160,000 lives in the U.S. this
year alone.
