WHAT:
HBO and Verizon will host an invitation-only
premiere of the HBO Miniseries Event THE PACIFIC in
Raritan, the hometown of John Basilone, the only
WWII Marine to receive the Congressional Medal of
Honor, Purple Heart Award and Navy Cross. For 28
years Raritan has been honoring Basilone with an
annual parade, and now the new HBO miniseries will
tell the story behind the legend. Rutherford native
Robert Leckie is also featured in the miniseries and
his war memoirs “Helmet For My Pillow” would
partially form the basis for THE PACIFIC.
WHO:
Special guests include: actors Jon Seda (from
Clifton,NJ) who portrays Gunnery Sergeant John
Basilone, United States Marine Corps and James
Badge Dale who portrays Robert Leckie of the 1st
Marine Division; Raritan and Somerset County
legislators; community leaders; World War II
Veterans and members of the Basilone and Leckie
families.

DETAILS:
This epic ten-part miniseries tracks the intertwined
odysseys of three U.S. Marines – Robert Leckie
(James Badge Dale), Eugene Sledge (Joe
Mazzello) and John Basilone (Jon Seda) –
across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during
World War II. It follows these men and their
fellow Marines from their first battle with
the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the rain
forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of
Peleliu, across the bloody sands of Iwo Jima and the
horror of Okinawa, and finally to their triumphant
but uneasy return home after V-J Day. The
HBO Miniseries presentation of a Playtone and
DreamWorks production is executive produced by Tom
Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, the
producing team behind the Emmy®- and Golden
Globe-winning 2001 HBO miniseries “Band of
Brothers”; Hanks and Goetzman also executive
produced the 2008 HBO miniseries “John Adams,”
which won a record
13 Emmys®.
