Legendary NASA Astronauts Scott
Carpenter, Robert Crippen and Al Worden Among Those
Who Will Honor the Two Organizations’ Commitment to
Preserving and Restoring Natural Habitats
Save the Chimps,
the world’s largest sanctuary for rescued
chimpanzees, and
McKee Botanical Garden
will hold a joint cocktail reception, “A Celebration
of Sanctuary,” honoring both
organizations’ dedication to preserving and
restoring natural habitats and their efforts to
foster a more modern and compassionate understanding
of our primate cousins and the natural world, on
Saturday, February 26
at 6:30pm at the McKee Botanical Garden,
350 US Highway 1, Vero Beach.
Legendary NASA astronauts Robert
Crippen, Al Worden and Scott Carpenter
will be among those on hand at the reception, which
will also celebrate the 50th anniversary
of the flight of Ham, the first chimpanzee to be
launched into outer space, as well as the 10th
anniversary of the establishment of Save the Chimps
and the 10th anniversary of the new McKee
Botanical Garden’s re-opening.
The event will
feature a replica Mercury space capsule, a silent
auction of paintings by rescued chimpanzees and a
personal televised message from renowned chimpanzee
scientist Dr. Jane Goodall.
Tickets for the benefit are available in advance for
$150 per person. Proceeds will benefit both Save
the Chimps and McKee Botanical Garden.
