JOHN LEHMAN
The
Center for Security Policy is pleased to award
the 2011 Freedom Flame Award to the Honorable
John Lehman. Dr. Lehman's accomplishments at
the highest levels in business and in public
service exemplify his commitment to freedom and
"peace through strength." He has been a stalwart
defender of the nation's security and champion
of a strong American military. He served for six
years as Secretary of the Navy under President
Ronald Reagan. Dr. Lehman also served as staff
member to Dr. Henry Kissinger on the National
Security Council, as delegate to the Force
Reductions Negotiations in Vienna and as Deputy
Director of the U.S. Arms Control and
Disarmament Agency. More recently, he was a
member of the 9/11 Commission, and the National
Commission on Defense. He served 25 years in the
Naval Reserve. Dr. Lehman is Chairman of J.F.
Lehman & Company, a private equity investment
firm. He is a director of Ball Corporation,
Verisk, Inc. and EnerSys Corporation, was
formerly an investment banker with PaineWebber
Inc., and was President of Abington Corporation
between 1977 and 1981. Dr. Lehman holds a B.S.
from St. Joseph's University, a B.A. and M.A.
from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. from the
University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a
Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge
University. Dr. Lehman has written numerous
books, including On Seas of Glory, Command ofthe
Seas and Making War.

E. Miles
Prentice III's strong commitment to the defense of
the United States and the principles of freedom is
underscored by his longtime support for the Center
for Security Policy. He has been the Chairman of the
Center's Board of Directors since 2008 and a Board
member since 2005. He is a partner in the New York
City law firm of Eaton & Van Winkle, and has
practiced in the area of international and domestic
commercial and financial law since 1973. He is a
director of National Life Insurance Company of
Vermont. He is also a director of The Texas League
of Professional Baseball Clubs, the Southern League
of Professional Baseball Clubs and the New York -
Penn League of Professional Baseball Clubs. Mr.
Prentice is a trustee of The Shelburne Museum and
the Hudson Institute, a past trustee of Washington &
Jefferson College, St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's School
and the Union League Club of New York. He is also
President of the Midland Rockhounds, the Huntsville
Stars and the Connecticut Tigers (minor league
baseball teams). He is a law graduate of the
University of Michigan.
