Black Tie International:
The 14th Annual IYRS Summer Gala
|
|
The
waterfront campus of the International Yacht Restoration
School in Newport, Rhode Island, is a place
where shipwrights are trained to build and restore
graceful classic boats from a bygone era. But one night
each summer, the campus is transformed into an elegant
setting for the school’s annual Gala. This year, the
14th Annual IYRS Summer Gala sponsored by The Hilton
Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney will take place on
Saturday,
July 9. The event attracts hundreds of classic-yacht
enthusiasts from the
East Coast and Europe.

On
the evening of July 9, the waterfront campus of Newport’s
International Yacht Restoration School will be transformed
from a place where shipwrights train into an elegant setting
for the school’s 14th Annual IYRS Summer Gala sponsored by
The Hilton Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. Under the
direction of event co-chairs Molly and Guillaume de Ramel of
Newport, the Gala’s theme is a Black & White Party.
A highpoint of the Gala weekend will be the unveiling of a
special black & white photography exhibit comprised of work
by the world’s leading marine photographers. Collectively,
the participating photographers have depicted every
iteration of yachting—from thrilling adventure and
competition to the still, simple beauty of boats; each
photographer will compose a single shot that depicts their
interpretation of the IYRS spirit, and their work will
become a focal point of the evening’s silent auction.
Two levels of tickets are available: 6 pm – midnight, for a
cocktail reception, sit-down dinner, live and silent
auctions, and dancing
($325 per person); or 9 pm –
midnight for cocktails, hors d'oeuvres
and dessert, silent auction, and dancing ($100 per person).
