The Palm Healthcare Foundation and The Palm Beach
Post welcome anyone who has been inspired by a
nurse to nominate him or her for the 9th
Annual Nursing Distinction Awards.
Created to honor nurses whose professional
contributions have made an impact in Palm Beach
County, the Nursing Distinction Awards recognize
Registered Nurses (which include Advanced Practice
Nurses, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists,
Certified Midwifes, Certified Nurse Specialists, and
Nurse Practitioners), Licensed Practical Nurses,
Nursing Students, and Certified Nursing Assistants
working in a Palm Beach County healthcare setting.
The nomination deadline is February 1, 2011
with no exceptions. All finalists will be notified
in advance and interviewed on March 19, 2011. To

Nursing Distinction awards will be presented at The
Breakers Palm Beach on May 6, 2011 in a gala-style
ceremony.
Palm Healthcare Foundation and The Palm Beach
Post’s 2011 Nurse of the Year Grand Prizes are
$1,000 and a Spa Week-End at The Breakers. The
recipient of this award is selected by the
nominating committee from already distinguished RN
winners in one of the categories.
The Nursing Award nominees consistently display
dedication to excellence in an area of expertise
through commitment to the profession and the
promotion of a sense of community and collegiality.
He/she seeks ways to improve the quality of
healthcare and discover creative ways to assist
those in need in a compassionate and caring manner.
Special consideration will be given to those who
inspire others to pursue a nursing career and make
tangible contributions to the health and well-being
of the residents of Palm Beach County.
Last year, a committee of 30 selected the eight
honorees from nearly 200 nominations submitted by
healthcare professionals and patients/families. The
2011 award categories are:
Leadership Award – Awarded to a Registered Nurse
working full-time in administration, management, or
higher education in Palm Beach County. Nominees
exemplify the true meaning of a leader. The award is
based on academic, professional, and community
service accomplishments.
Registered Nurse (RN) of the Year – Awarded to a
Registered Nurse working full-time in Palm Beach
County.
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) of the Year – Awarded
to a Licensed Practical Nurse working full-time in
Palm Beach County.
Educator of the Year – Awarded to a Registered Nurse
working as a nurse educator in an academic or
healthcare setting in Palm Beach County.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) of the Year –
Awarded to an individual working as a Certified
Nursing Assistant in Palm Beach County.
Extra Mile Award – Awarded to a nurse who goes above
and beyond to foster professional growth in others
and/or serve the community (e.g. mentors,
preceptors, volunteers) or a nurse who has a
compassionate story on how he/she made a profound
impact in a patient's life or community.
Nursing Student of the Year – Awarded to a nursing
student enrolled in a RN or LPN program in Palm
Beach County.
Hands and Heart Award – Awarded to a nurse nominated
by patients and/or their family caregivers for
exemplary service. The Hands and Heart Award
