LIFE's star-studded 19th Annual “Lady in Red” Gala
Palm Beach, Florida — On Saturday, December 1, 2012, LIFE
will host the 19th Annual "Lady in Red" Gala at The Mar-a-Lago
Club, Palm Beach. Always the much anticipated start of the
Palm Beach social season, the gala will begin at 6:00 pm
with cocktails followed by dinner and dancing.
Lois Pope and Suzi Goldsmith will serve as Chairwomen of
LIFE's 19th Annual "Lady in Red" Gala. Co-Chairs are Sally
and Dick Robinson. Celebrities, local dignitaries and
socialites will gather for this spectacular evening that
will include entertainment by famed Tonight Show host Jay
Leno and the red-hot party band, Sultans of Swing.
Additional performances will include the Palm Beach Symphony
with Russian Virtuoso Lola Astanova and the 60 Member Mormon
Choir.
Lois Pope, chairman of the Lois Pope LIFE Foundation, Inc.,
and President of LIFE (Leaders In Furthering Education), is
also chairman of the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial
Foundation. She has dedicated the last 15 years to raising
funds for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial,
the only National Memorial dedicated to paying tribute to
the three million permanently disabled veterans living today
and to all deceased disabled veterans throughout our
history. Only weeks ago the FHWA approved a discretionary
grant of $6,042,000 to the District of Columbia for the
street/road infrastructure work around the Memorial site
clearing the way for construction to begin.
The Lois Pope Life Foundation and LIFE have also provided
awards for medical research, scholarships, summer camp
programs, the performing arts, and animal welfare. Projects
include the University of Miami-based Lois Pope LIFE Center,
the leading facility in the world for research in paralysis
and neurological diseases. Most recently the Lois Pope LIFE
Center has received FDA approval for the use of Schwan Cells
on human beings in order to cure paralysis.
This revolutionary process will change spinal cord injury
research
and treatment forever.
Mrs. Pope just recently donated a life-saving
ambulance to American Friends of Magen David Adom, the
“Israeli Red Cross”, to add to the four she has already
given. She has also been responsible for creating a
life-saving clean water project in hurricane-ravaged
Guatemala; scholarships for community-minded, aspiring
physicians attending the City College of New York and gave
$300,000 to the Sudanese Genocide Response Team to help
young refugee women in the Sudan. She is also a member of
the board of directors of the prestigious American Humane
Association which is the nation's voice for the protection
of children and animals.
Suzi Goldsmith, Founder of Tri County Humane Society
provides Pet Therapy programs and over a fifteen year period
has found loving homes for countless animals through its
rescue missions. A few of the many organizations Mrs.
Goldsmith is involved with are The American Heart
Association, Children’s Place at Home Safe,
Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, American Red Cross, WXEL Public Broadcasting,
International Society of Palm Beach, Palm Beach Antiques
Show, Easter Seals of South Florida, Palm Beach Fireman’s
Organization, Center for Family Services, KidSanctuary, and
Alzheimer’s Association.
In addition to LIFE, she serves on the Board
of Directors for the American Cancer Society, Palm Beach
Round Table, Le Chaine des Rotisseurs and the American Lung
Association.
Tickets to the" Lady in Red" Gala are $700 per person. All
proceeds from the evening will benefit LIFE’s partnership
with American Humane Association (AHA) which includes a
program to protect the voiceless and the vulnerable in our
society - abused and neglected children and animals.
Programs that will be served are in Palm Beach County,
including a large Pet Mobile for adoption purposes and
rescue service during times of emergency .
