2012 SPA GALA THEME IS “UNA SERA DI AMORE”

HOUSTON, TEXAS – Society for the Performing Arts (S.P.A.),
bringing the world’s best to Houston, announced today with
great excitement that plans are coming along for the 2012
annual gala, Una Sera di Amore, which will be
held March 31, 2012 at The Corinthian and will benefit SPA’s
education and outreach programming – Beyond the Stage.
It promises to be a very romantic affair with the dapper
duo of Mary Ann and David McKeithan
leading the helm.
Special entertainment will be provided by The Sicilian
Tenors. The guests of this unique and exciting evening will
be treated to a delicious dinner by Jackson Hicks,
fabulous décor provided by Rebekah Johnson and the
spectacular entertainment that will get you moving on the
dance floor, SKYROCKET from Austin. There will also
be a select silent auction and brief live auction.
This year’s gala will honor Margaret Alkek Williams for the
many years she has contributed her time and efforts to SPA.
Founded in 1966, Society for the Performing Arts (S.P.A.) is
the largest independent non-profit presenting organization
in the Southwest. Since its inception, S.P.A. has sponsored
more than
850 performances of the world’s finest music, dance and
theater events, in adherence to the belief that the arts are
fundamental to the overall enrichment and quality of life
within the community. In addition to presenting artists,
S.P.A. seeks to provide a variety of learning experiences
for adults and children through master classes, lectures and
special student performances, as well as build relationships
between the performing arts and other interests within the
greater Houston area and throughout the state of Texas.
S.P.A.’s mission is to bring the very best performers from
around the world to Houston for the enjoyment,
enlightenment, and education of all Houstonians. The Gala
is a major part of Society for the Performing Arts’ annual
fundraising campaign, and allows the organization to
continue bringing Houston outstanding talent such as
violinist Itzhak Perlman, Buena Vista Social Club,
Mark Morris Dance Company, MOMIX, Peking
Acrobats, STOMP, and David Sedaris.
Tickets begin at $500 per person with limited seating, and
tables begin at $5,000. Many underwriting opportunities
