NASA astronaut Jeffrey Alan Hoffman, Autism
Speaks Co-founders Suzanne and Bob Wright, ABC
News Correspondent Bob Woodruff, and Susan
Marenoff-Zausner, president of the Intrepid Sea, Air &
Space Museum, will join military families, other families
and individuals with autism to kick off Autism Awareness
Month and World Autism Awareness Day (April 2) at
Autism Speaks Salutes Military Families
on Saturday, March 31 at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space
Museum, Pier 86 (46th Street and 12th Avenue) at 8:45 a.m.
The event,
hosted by Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science
and advocacy organization, will feature activities for kids
and a resource fair. In addition, Autism Speaks will debut a
video greeting from an International Space Station
crewmember to highlight autism as a growing global health
crisis, and emphasize the need for international cooperation
to make widespread change and progress in meeting the
needs of individuals with autism.
The Intrepid
Sea, Air & Space Museum is joining Autism Speaks’ Light
It Up Blue campaign, a global initiative with more over
3,000 iconic landmarks, airports, bridges, sports arenas,
museums, concert halls, restaurants as well as retail,
corporate and media partners in over 220 U.S. cities
and 28 countries that will light up bright blue on World
Autism Awareness Day, April 2.
