FAMILY DANCE
with Caller Henry
Chapin & Music by Neighborhood Composers
March 31
What a
Neighborhood! presents a family dance, Saturday
March 31 at 3:30, in the Ascension School Auditorium, 220
West 108th Street. Suggested donation $10 for
adults. Absolute beginners and experienced dancers of all
ages are welcome! No partner needed. Caller Henry Chapin
will teach fun and easy contradances and translation will be
available into Spanish. For more information, please call
212-222-2101.
The Orfeo Duo (Vita Wallace, violin and accordion, and
Ishmael Wallace, piano) will play traditional tunes and new
dance music by neighborhood composers Fidel Cuellar and Kate
Ettinger, as well as a touch of swing music. The very young
dancers of Ascension Church Cultural Center will also be
featured. As a participant in last year’s Family Dance
wrote, “What an invigorating program! I loved the way
families were
able to relax and enjoy the afternoon. The band was great!”
What a
Neighborhood! is a concert series founded in 2003
by the Orfeo Duo. It celebrates Morningside Heights and West
Harlem primarily by showcasing the music of living local
composers, developing grassroots support for their work and
drawing neighbors together.
