Celebrities and Philanthropists To Join Forces At Free
Ticketed Festival To End Extreme Poverty on Sept. 29
with Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters, The Black
Keys, Band of Horses and K’Naan
The Global Poverty Project has
announced the official host committee for the Global Citizen
Festival 2012. The all-star roster represents the collective
effort that The Global Poverty Project has initiated, asking
people to take actions to eradicate extreme poverty. The
free ticketed concert will take place on September 29, on
the Great Lawn of New York's iconic Central Park. Neil Young
with Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters and The Black Keys will
headline, supported by Band of Horses and K’Naan.
The Global Citizen Festival, in
partnership with ten nonprofit organizations, has been timed
to celebrate achievements and create awareness around the UN
General Assembly in New York, when world leaders will
convene to debate the Millennium Development Goals and make
commitments to end extreme poverty.
The
confirmed host committee includes: Hugh Jackman, Jeffrey
Sachs, Jack Dorsey, Katie Couric, Selena Gomez for U.S. Fund
for UNICEF, Minka Kelly for The World Food Program USA,
Sophia Bush for Pencils of Promise, Olivia Wilde for Half
the Sky Movement, Katharine McPhee for Malaria No More, and
Erin Heatherton.
The incredible supporters, some on
behalf of nonprofit partners, will dedicate their time and
passion to encourage their fans and friends to raise
awareness about the issue and take action in the end of
poverty.
Katharine McPhee stated, “I am thrilled
to be participating in this incredible event, it’s a rare
opportunity to have thousands of people taking action
together to fight global poverty. I saw first-hand in
Africa this year how we are making progress!"
Tickets to
the concert can be earned through the new online platform,
Global Citizen (www.globalfestival.com).
Global Citizen offers a wide cross-section of content and
actions about international health and development issues,
ranging from videos to in-depth white papers. It also
showcases nonprofit partners and social entrepreneurs that
are working in each of these areas, as well as academics,
writers, the host committee and music artists who are
involved in these particular issues. Each fan can simply
choose from a variety of cause-related actions to complete
on the website, become a global citizen and qualify for free
tickets to the concert.
The
Festival is being produced by Goldenvoice and is generously
supported by a range of Foundations, private donors and
businesses. The Pratt Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation, and Capital for Good, have provided generous
support for Global Citizen and the Global Citizen Festival.
The event is only possible because of the critical funding
from the Sumner Redstone Foundation that allowed the
Festival to move forward. Art and other creative
elements of the festival will be produced by Milk Studios
and the HOPE Campaign.
People everywhere are invited to sign-up and begin
participating in actions to be entered in the ticket
lottery. More information about the bands, artists,
