Celebrating 31 years of time-honored
tradition and excellence, the American Heart Association’s
Boca Raton Heart & Stroke Ball will unite corporate
sponsors, patrons, medical professionals, and honored guests
on Saturday, March 2, 2013. The “Heart and Soul” themed
event will be held at the Royal Palm Yacht Club beginning
with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6:30 p.m.
followed by a seated dinner and dancing.
The Chair of the 2013 event is Paula Pianta,
General Manager of Bloomingdale’s in Boca Raton. She has
graciously given “from the heart for the heart” in
orchestrating what promises to be a premier event of the
South County Social Season. With an Executive Leadership
Team, Gala and Auction Committee, and Junior Leadership
Council totaling more than 60 people, the American Heart
Associations is grateful for their time, talents, and
resources as they drive the lifesaving mission of the
organization.
Proceeds will support heart and stroke research, education,
and community programs including emergency preparedness and
advocacy efforts. The Boca Raton Heart & Stroke Ball, held
each year, shines light on the reality surrounding the
prevalence of heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 4
killers, respectively, of American men and women.
"The research and programs of the American Heart Association
are so vital in the battle against these diseases," said
Pianta. "It is an honor to support a cause so close to my
heart. The Boca Raton Heart & Stroke Ball helps foster
community support and awareness as well as raising essential
funds and I am excited to be a part of it."
Familiar faces in both the national and local arenas are
actively engaged with the event including this year’s
Honoree - the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at
Florida Atlantic University, with special recognition of the
Schmidt Family Foundation –
Barbara and Richard Schmidt, Dr. Charles H. Hennekens, and
Dr. David J. Bjorkman.
Cardiovascular disease is often
underappreciated and consequently undertreated. Prevention
is too frequently underemphasized, said Seth Baum, MD, FACC,
FACPM, FAHA, FNLA. “In fact, many people still do not know
that cardiovascular disease kills more women than all
cancers combined. Without adequate awareness of the enormous
threat cardiovascular diseases still pose, physicians and
the lay public will be unable to thwart its onslaught.” By
supporting the Boca Raton Heart Ball we can raise awareness
for these vital prevention efforts.
