Richard Dreyfuss to
Keynote New JFS Luncheon on
Breaking the Stigma of Mental Illness
Academy-award winner Richard Dreyfuss will keynote a new
event this season, to break the stigma of mental illness
while benefiting the comprehensive mental health services of
Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service (JFS). The community is
invited to hear Dreyfuss, who lives with bi-polar disorder,
at the Reflections of Hope Luncheon on February 21, 2013,
11:00 am at Boca West Country Club.
“We look forward to welcoming all of our guests to share in
an afternoon of hope, inspiration and possibility,” said
Deborah Steinberg, who is co-chairing the luncheon with Judi
Donoff and Nancy Schiller. “JFS welcomes all who need help,
with a sliding fee scale for psychiatric care, psychological
evaluation, counseling, support groups, and our remarkable
Welcome Home drop-in program - essential services too often
out of reach even for those
with insurance.”
“As the daughter of a schizophrenic mother and the mother of
a schizophrenic daughter, I felt early and learned deeply
the stigma and challenges of mental illness,” said Schiller.
“With new medications, after nine years my daughter returned
to society as a counselor to the recovering mentally ill,
successful author and happy human being. To give back, my
husband and I helped found the Welcome Home Program at JFS,
where adults with mental illness can gain skills and support
in a therapeutic, caring, creative setting.
“We are extremely grateful to those whose generosity has
enabled this important new opportunity to raise awareness
and vital funds for mental health,” said Donoff. “Our
Inaugural Luncheon Sponsor Marleen Forkas has led the way in
championing this new effort that will help so many from
throughout our community.”
Reflections of Hope is also generously sponsored by Gail &
Arthur E. Benjamin Foundation, Ticho Foundation, Alison &
Mitch Robbins, and Corporate Sponsors Wells Fargo Private
Bank and TEVA Pharmaceuticals. Boca Raton Resort & Club is
Exclusive Hotel Sponsor, and Boca Raton Observer is
Exclusive Media Sponsor. Additional sponsorships are
available.
The cost of attending is $118 per person. To help even more,
the luncheon will feature a raffle of luxury items. For more
