The Wick Costume Museum
Opens in Boca Raton
New Venue Provides
Visually Stunning Walk through American Musical Theatre
History
Collection has an
Estimated Value of $21 Million
Boca Raton, FL---One
hundred years of costume designer creativity will come
to life in a spectacular new home in Boca Raton when
Marilynn A. Wick and her daughter, Kimberly Wick open
the Costume Museum at the Wick Theatre on November 15,
2013- the second phase of construction on the site of
the former Caldwell Theatre Company. The
highly anticipated venue will house a collection of
original costumes from over 35 Broadway productions and
revivals with an estimated value of more than 20 million
dollars. The
collection has been featured on The
Today Show, in People magazine
and was the subject of a spectacular photo essay in Vogue magazine
by renowned photographer, Bruce Weber.
“For the past 38 years, I
have had the privilege of collecting wardrobes from the
most prestigious and successful Broadway productions in
history,” said Founder and Executive Producer Marilynn
A. Wick. “My
passion for preserving this cornerstone of the American
theatre inspired me to envision the rehearsal and prop
storage area at the rear of the theatre as the dramatic
showcase where over 100 years of our history can be
preserved and appreciated for years to come.
Marilynn and her daughter,
Kimberly, began the Costume World Broadway Collection in
a non-descript warehouse facility located in Pompano
Beach in January of 2010. Despite
the low-profile location, the Broadway Collection
rapidly developed a passionate following that exceeded
20,000 guests with nothing more than a word-of-mouth
marketing strategy. “From
the moment we opened the doors to our first guests, our
reputation grew beyond our wildest expectations,” said
Kimberly Wick, curator of the Costume Museum and
frequent docent on the tours. “The
support of the community, the charities, the women’s
groups and all of the social organizations were the key
to our popularity. The
obvious love they had for what we had created in this
unusual and out-of-the-way place led to a groundswell of
support that we could never have anticipated. It
convinced us to make this iconic collection available to
all of South Florida as well as visitors world-wide. It
definitely carried a great deal of weight in our
decision to purchase the theatre and move the collection
to Boca Raton.”
A visit to the Wick
Theatre and Costume Museum will be a guaranteed
memorable experience. The
incredible display includes wardrobes from such
blockbuster productions as The
Producers, Titanic, the
Sarah Jessica Parker production of Once
Upon a Mattress, La Cage aux Folles, The King and I, and
the Julie Andrews production of My
Fair Lady with
original costume designs by the incomparable Sir Cecil
Beaton. The
museum will showcase 12 permanent exhibits with 8 others
rotating through the facility and the theatre throughout
the season.
The theatre’s exhibits
will be reflective of the current main stage production
at the Wick Theatre as well as exhibits from the vast
film and television wardrobes available for loan from
the Costume World vaults. Guests can also take advantage
of the added option of attending a matinee at the Wick
Theatre as part of their museum tour package.
