International:
International Day
of Charity
|
|
The International Day of Charity
was established with the objective of
sensitizing
and mobilizing
individuals,
NGOs, and other stakeholders around the world
to act benevolently and help others through volunteering
and philanthropic activities.
The day is a great opportunity to promote your own activities
and to raise awareness
about the importance of charity in general.
Therefore, we would like to ask you to draw the attention of your partners
to this opportunity and to commemorate the day
by organizing your own initiatives.
On December 17 of 2012, the UN General Assembly designated
September 5,
the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa, as the
International Day of Charity.
The resolution, introduced by Hungary, enjoyed wide support
and was adopted
by consensus with the co-sponsorship of 44 states representing all
regions.
In its resolution, the General Assembly invited Member
States, organizations of the United Nations system and other
international and regional organizations, as well as civil
society to commemorate the International Day of Charity in
an appropriate manner, by encouraging charity, including
through education and public awareness-raising activities
