WHAT: The
World Science Festival, one
of the world's premier organizations for the cultivation of
a general public informed by science,
will honor pioneering geneticist and global humanitarian,
Dr. Mary-Claire King for her remarkable achievements that
have helped to save countless lives around the world.
Previous galas have honored physicist Stephen Hawking,
biologist James Watson, and biologist E.O. Wilson, and have
featured performances by LeVar Burton, Maggie Gyllenhaal,
Allison Janney, John Lithgow, Yo-Yo Ma, Liev Schreiber, and
more.
This year's
Gala performance will be directed by acclaimed Broadway
musical director David Chase, whose many credits include
Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Elf, Nice Work If You
Can Get It, and Evita, among others. Post-dinner cocktails
and desserts include carbonated and vaporized custom
cocktails by Kevin Denton of wd50 and Alder, biodegradable
Loliware Edible Cups, Shoots and Roots Bitters, and the US
debut of KYL21 molecular popsicles from food designer David
Marx of The Science Kitchen in Berlin.
The World Science Festival is a production of
the Science Festival Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization headquartered in New York City. Founded in 2008
by Emmy award-winning producer, Tracy Day and world-renowned
physicist and best-selling author, Brian Greene, the
Foundation's mission is to cultivate a general public
informed by science, inspired by its wonder, convinced of
its value, and prepared to engage with its implications for
the future. The World Science Festival has been made
