sector, from finance to fine arts. Appreciating that
education is the key to success in every industry, we pride
ourselves in helping high potential women over the age of 35
return to college after their education has been disrupted
by life’s adversities. Giving these women a second chance to
realize their potential is our way of giving back and
building new leaders.”
- Ami Kaplan,
President of the Women’s Forum of New York.
“Twenty-eight
years ago, the Education Fund embarked on a mission to help
women, who had overcome serious hardships in their lives, to
realize their dream of an education. We started out slowly,
but have been able to achieve real momentum in helping these
women through the Elly Awards. Education Fund grants have
made a significant impact on the lives of the women who
receive them, on their families, and on their communities as
grant recipients earn a degree and take their place in the
work world.”

The Women’s Forum of New York:
The Women’s Forum of New York is New York's premier
organization of women leaders comprised of the highest women
achievers across all professional sectors from finance to
fine arts.
They advance women's leadership three ways:
● through
core programming which provides personal and professional
enrichment to their members
● through
the Education Fund which provides education awards to high
potential women whose careers have been derailed by
adversity
● through
the Corporate Board Initiative which expands and extends the
contribution of women leaders through participation on
corporate and civic boards.
The Education Fund is
an educational and charitable arm of The Women’s Forum of
New York, established under a separate corporate governance
as a 501(c)3 tax deductible organization.
Since 1987, the Fund has helped mature women pursue
educational goals and enhance their capacities to provide
productive and supportive service to their communities. The
Award recognizes extraordinary and often heroic effort in
overcoming adversity and the most daunting of odds in
restructuring lives for success.
Grants are awarded to women over the age of 35 who, after
suffering great adversity and an interruption in their
education, are now pursuing undergraduate college degrees.
Students in this population are often single parents,
economically disadvantaged and struggling with the rising
costs of a college education. Over the past 28
years, 172 women have been honored by The Education Fund.

About The 2015 Elly Honorees:
Tina Brown is
an award-winning journalist, editor, author, and currently
founder and CEO of Tina Brown Live Media and Women in the
World, a company dedicated to summits, salons, flash forums
and debates which offer solutions to building a better life
for women and girls. Prior to this, in October 2008, Tina
launched and edited the award-winning digital news site The
Daily Beast with
Barry Diller’s IAC. Between 1979 and 2001, she was
editor-in-chief of Tatler,
Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, and Talk—and
later Newsweek in
2011. She also authored the 2007 best-selling biography of
the Princess of Wales, The
Diana Chronicles. In 2000, Queen Elizabeth awarded Tina
the honor of Commander of the Order of the British Empire
for her services to journalism.
Emily Rafferty,
President Emerita, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, recently
stepped down as President after 39 years on the staff of the
nation’s largest and most comprehensive art museum. Emily
has served on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York since
2011, its chairman since 2012 and was elected Chair of the
National Board of Chairs in 2015. She serves as Chairwoman
of NYC & Company, the City’s official tourism and marketing
agency, and is a member of the Board of the National
September 11 Memorial & Museum. Her devotion to varied
cultural, economic and philanthropic organizations and the
collegial relationships she has fostered among them both
here and abroad, illustrate why Emily is frequently named
one of New York’s most influential women.
About The
Presenters:
Mika Brzezinski is
the co-host of MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" and the author of three
best-selling books. Her second book Knowing
Your Value, which examines the role of women in the
workplace, reached #1 on The New York Times best-sellers
list for business books in the spring of 2011. Her most
recent book Obsessed:
America’s Food Addiction and My Own debuted
on the best-sellers list in the spring of 2013. Prior to
joining MSNBC in 2007, Mika was an anchor of the “CBS
Evening News Weekend Edition,” a CBS News correspondent, a
frequent contributor to “CBS Sunday Morning” and “60
Minutes,” and an on-site reporter from Lower Manhattan on
9/11.
Judy Collins has
inspired audiences with sublime vocals, boldly vulnerable
songwriting, personal life triumphs, and a firm commitment
to social activism. In the 1960s, she evoked both the
idealism and steely determination of a generation united
against social and environmental injustices. Five decades
later, her luminescent presence shines brightly as new
generations bask in the glow of her iconic 50-album body of
work, her PBS specials from the Metropolitan Museum and
Ireland, her inspirational books and her motivating work
with UNICEF. A Renaissance woman, Judy continues to create
music of hope and healing that lights up the world and
speaks to the heart.
