XAVIER SOCIETY TO
HOST “RUDY” AT NY ATHLETIC CLUB
On Friday, June 12,
the Xavier Society for the Blind will host Daniel “Rudy”
Ruettiger at a cocktail reception, after which the Notre
Dame legend made famous by the film bearing his name will
talk about his life, the lessons he has learned, and will be
available to answer questions. Rudy is a motivational
speaker and has appeared in hundreds of venues throughout
the United States.
Fr. John Sheehan, SJ,
Chairman of the Xavier Society for the Blind, also a Notre
Dame graduate, is excited to be able to present this
inspirational figure. “Although he was at Notre Dame after I
graduated, the story of his love for the school and his
fierce determination to realize his dream have become part
of the history and fabric of Notre Dame. His message of the
need to persevere, to never give up, resonates with the
blind community, with anyone struggling with medical or
physical problems, with members of the Irish community as we
anticipate the 100th anniversary next year of the
Easter uprising and the move to independence – in short,
anyone who has ever had to work hard and struggle to achieve
a goal will understand this message, and take new hope and
energy with them after they hear this extraordinary man
speak.”
After he left Notre
Dame, Rudy moved to Nevada where he worked in insurance. He
told his story to many people along the way who were
inspired and who encouraged him to share it with a wider
audience. He began writing and carried his idea to
Hollywood. When the movie was produced, he found new
opportunities to speak and inspire people to never give up
on their dreams. He developed a career as an inspirational
writer and speaker. He founded the Rudy Awards Program
offering scholarships to children in elementary and middle
schools. He will share this and more with the audience.
A VIP reception
begins at 6 PM, will permit additional time with Rudy. Each
attendee will receive a “goody bag” which includes a signed
copy of his book. The younger audience, young adults between
the ages of 12 and 20, may attend at a special lower rate.
Each adult ticket may “accompany” no more than two young
adults.
The general cocktail
party will be open at 7 PM, and again, there will be special
prices for young adults, accompanied by a regular admission.
There will be memorabilia available to purchase, that Rudy
will autograph, and information about and the opportunity to
support the Xavier Society for the Blind will also be
present. There are two levels of direct sponsorship, and a
souvenir program for the event will be provided to each
participant, and is accepting advertising up to May 15.
Note that the New
York Athletic Club does have and enforces a dress code;
jacket and tie for men, comparable business attire for
ladies.
