Latino talent!
 
HFFNY pays homage to prolific Cuban screenwriter Senel Paz; Remembers filmmaking masters Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Fernando Birri
 
HFFNY honors the 25th anniversary of TV Serrana, Cuba's award-winning film and video collective based in the Sierra Maestra
 
HFFNY Kicks off with First Fridays! @ The Bronx Museum of the Arts - April 6

 
 
WHAT: The 19th Havana Film Festival New York (HFFNY) features over 25 films from Latin America, including critically-acclaimed comedies, award-winning dramas, box-office hits, recently restored classics, and World, US and NY Premieres plus free programs in partnerships with leading cultural institutions in the Bronx, Queens and Manhattan.

 
 
HIGHLIGHTS OF 19th HFFNY:
  • Screenings of award-winning Latin American films competing for Havana Star Prize in the categories Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Film, Best Actor, and Best Actress
  • Live music and parties
  • Opportunities to meet actors, directors, and other international guests; participate in panels and special events; and watch films seldom screened in New York City
  • A masterclass with prolific Cuban screenwriter and author Senel Paz on scriptwriting
  • A conversation with actors Sebastian Ospina (Colombia), Mirta Ibarra (Cuba) and Jorge Perugorría (Cuba) on how they approach the script and construct their characters
  • An homage to Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (1928-1996), in celebration of his 90th birthday, and screenings of his newly restored classic works
  • An In Memoriam screening of the late Argentine director Fernando Birri's most seminal works
  • A two-day program honoring TV Serrana's 25th anniversary, the Cuban community-based television and radio collective
  • NY Love Films Roundtable Discussion in collaboration with New York State Governor's Office of Motion Picture and Television Development
     
 
WHEN: April 6-17, 2018

 
WHY: HFFNY is an annual Latino film and cultural event that New Yorkers eagerly look forward to, premiering the latest Latino films by prominent and emerging cinema visionaries throughout the continent. The festival offers an international variety of award-winning films, retrospectives, and panel discussions with notable local and international directors, actors, and producers. HFFNY offers free special events and screenings in partnership with renowned local cultural institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts, King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at NYU (KJCC), School of Visual Arts and Museum of the Moving Image.
