The Mental Health Association of New York City (MHA-NYC),
a non-profit
organization with local roots and national
reach, will host its 26th Annual Gala on
Tuesday, June 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the
Winter Garden at Brookfield Place. The Gala will
honor two individuals who have taken consistent
action to increase mental health awareness --
Grammy-nominated, Def Jam rap artist and mental
health advocate, Logic, who, with his quadruple
platinum hit single,
“1-800-273-8255,”
named for the National Suicide Prevention
Lifeline phone number, put a global spotlight on
suicide prevention and MHA-NYC Board Member
Kevin J. Danehy, Global Head of Corporate
Development at Brookfield, for his nearly
quarter of a century commitment to saving lives.
Last year MHA-NYC, which
administers
the SAMHSA-funded National Suicide Prevention
Lifeline, launched a national campaign –
#BeThe1To – to spread the message that everyone
can take action to help save a life.
For more than 50 years, MHA-NYC has been leading
the way in mental health through its three-part
mission of service, advocacy and education. Its
mission is to identify unmet needs and develop
culturally sensitive programs to improve the
lives of individuals and families impacted by
mental illness while promoting the importance of
mental health. In addition to the National
Suicide Prevention Lifeline, other life-saving
work of MHA-NYC includes administering the
Veterans Crisis Line, and the NFL Life Line. MHA-NYC
is also a key partner in Mayor de Blasio's
ThriveNYC mental health initiative,
administering NYC Well, the connection to free,
confidential mental health and substance misuse
support for all New Yorkers via phone, text or
chat. www.mhaofnyc.org
Monies raised at the Gala directly support the
mission of MHA-NYC and the millions of people
who benefit from its services, advocacy and
education programs every year. For more
