ADAPT 2019 Leaderships Awards Gala
 

Tony Danza

New York, New York, February 26, 2019 – Edward R. MatthewsCEO of ADAPT Community Network, has announced that Tony Danza will be honored with the Hausman Humanitarian Award at the 2019 ADAPT Leadership Awards Gala to take place on Thursday, March 14th, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

 

The ADAPT Leadership Awards honor the accomplishments of extraordinary individuals and corporations who have made an impact on people with disabilities and have inspired others through their professional and charitable endeavors. The gala benefits the important ongoing programs and services of ADAPT Community Network.


The Hausman Family is the founding family of this organization. The Hausman Humanitarian Award recognizes exceptional humanitarian contributions that give back to the community.

 

In addition to Tony Danza, the previously announced 2019 ADAPT Leadership Awards Honorees are: David Muir, Anchor & Managing Editor, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir; Tamron Hall, Journalist, TV host, philanthropist; Peter M. Meyer, Market President, New York City – TD Bank; John and Mark X. Cronin, Founders, John’s Crazy Socks.

 

The event will be hosted by Cara Buono, star of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, and Emmy-nominee for her role on Mad Men.

 

The 2019 ADAPT Leadership Awards Honorary Gala Chairs are Al Roker, co-host and weatherman of NBC's Today Show, and Deborah Roberts, ABC News correspondent for 20/20, Nightline, Good Morning America, and ABC World News Tonight with David Muir. Honorary Gala Co-Chairs are Susan Lucci, Emmy-winning actress, New York Times best-selling author, entrepreneur, and past ADAPT honoree and host; Tamsen Fadal, 11-time Emmy-winning anchor of PIX 11 News, past ADAPT host, and Honorary Vice Chair of the ADAPT Board of Directors; and Mike Woods, meteorologist and reporter for FOX 5’s Good Day New York, and past ADAPT host.

 

Gala Co-Chairs of the 2019 ADAPT Leadership Awards are: Edward R. Matthews, CEO of ADAPT Community Network; Marty & Helaine Hausman; Marissa Shorenstein, President, Northeast, AT&T; and Alan Zack.

 

“Tony Danza is a New Yorker who has given back to New York City and Greater New York dedicating time and support to many different organizations and we are delighted to honor him for his over 40 years of charitable work as well as his career achievements in television, film, and stage,” says Edward R. Matthews.

 

Tony Danza most recently starred in the Netflix series, The Good Cop. He has been one of the world’s most beloved and iconic entertainers for over forty years. Best known for his starring roles on two of television’s most cherished and long-running series, Taxi and Who’s The Boss, Tony has also starred in hit films such as Angels in the Outfield, She’s Out of Control, Hollywood Knights, and Don Jon. Well established as a song and dance man, Tony often tours with his hit live show, Standards & Stories, about which the New York Times raved: “Tony’s a live wire who tap dances, plays the ukulele, tells stories, and radiates irresistible charm… He exudes the kind of charisma that can’t be taught.” Tony has starred on Broadway in The Producers, A View from the Bridge, and most recently received rave reviews for his performance in the Broadway musical comedy, Honeymoon In Vegas, with the New York Times calling his performance “sly genius,” and a “career high.”

 

Tony Danza will be presented the Hausman Humanitarian Award by Susan Lucci, ADAPT Leadership Awards Honorary Gala Co‐Chair.

 

Susan Lucci, the most famous face in daytime television history, held audiences spellbound as the famed and fiery, “woman you love to hate,” Erica Kane on ABC’s, All My Children. In May 1999, on her 19th Emmy nomination, she won the award for Best Actress, becoming the most nominated actor in television history. Today, Susan Lucci remains one of the most revered actresses in Hollywood.

 

In 1999, she made her Broadway debut to rave reviews playing the part of Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun. From 2013 through 2016, Susan starred in Lifetime TV’s hit international series, Devious Maids, and in 2015 was seen in the critically acclaimed David O. Russell film, Joy. In 2017 she appeared in Grammy‐nominated performing artist Sia’s holiday music video, Santa’s Coming for Us.

 

Susan Lucci has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has been inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame. She is proud to serve as an Ambassador for the newly established National Women’s Museum in Washington, D.C. She has been honored with the Disney Legends Award for her contribution to Disney’s reputation for creative excellence. She has been named one of E! Entertainment’s “Top Entertainers of the Year”; one of VH‐1’s “200 Greatest Pop Icons” coming in at number 75; one of Barbara Walters’ “Ten Most Fascinating People”; and one of TV Guide’s “50 Top Television Stars of All Time.” In 2011, she released her New York Times best‐selling autobiography, All My Life.

 

Susan is a longtime supporter of ADAPT Community Network. She is a past Women Who Care Awards honoree and subsequently hosted the event for four years. She also narrated a PSA for the organization to raise awareness for women with disabilities to have screenings for breast cancer. Susan also generously donated a portion of the proceeds of her Everything but the House auction to ADAPT Community Network and was a celebrity presenter at the inaugural ADAPT Leadership Awards.

 

There will be a special performance at the ADAPT Leadership Gala by theNew York City’s Police Athletic League’s Cops & Kids Chorus.

 

New York City’s Police Athletic League is the first and finest civilian-run PAL in the country. Founded in 1914, PAL has served the city’s young people for over 100 years.  PAL provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities to 30,000 boys and girls annually.  It is also the city’s largest, independent, nonprofit youth organization.  For more information, please visit www.palnyc.org.

 

Tony Danza and his four-piece band will return to the Café Carlyle with his hit cabaret show: Tony Danza: Standards & Stories from March 26-30.
