Vitacca Ballet Artistic Director Kelly Ann Vitacca is proud
to announce Smith Works, an evening of groundbreaking
contemporary ballet choreographed by Vitacca Ballet’s
Resident Choreographer Garrett Smith. The production will
take place on Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16, 2025, at
the Zilka Theater in the Hobby Center for the Performing
Arts (800 Bagby St, Houston, TX 77002).
Following the Friday night performance, there will be an
exclusive patron reception on stage, offering guests the
opportunity to meet the artists and celebrate this
exceptional evening of contemporary ballet.
Smith Works will
feature a selection of Smith’s innovative choreography,
celebrated for its striking blend of visceral energy,
musicality, and emotional depth. A Houston native, Garrett
Smith’s choreography has garnered international acclaim, and
his recent work Hypnotic Forces for Vitacca Ballet
was highlighted by Pointe Magazine as one of the “12
Standout Performances of 2023.” In her review, Nancy Wozny
praised the raw intensity of the piece, writing, "Hypnotic
Forces showed off the Houston-based company’s raw verve,
visceral drive, and impressive musicality amidst composer
Nils Frahm’s pounding rhythms."
Kelly Ann Vitacca, Artistic Director of Vitacca Ballet,
expressed her excitement for the upcoming production:
“Vitacca Ballet is thrilled to feature Garrett Smith’s works
in an evening-length production. Garrett has been an
exceptional choreographic voice within the company, and Smith
Works brings this unique, homegrown talent back to
Houston for the city to experience firsthand.”
Under the artistic leadership of Kelly Ann Vitacca, Vitacca
Ballet continues to build approachable and innovative
contemporary ballet works that combine beauty, athleticism,
and wit. Vitacca Ballet’s mission is to share a progressive
ballet vision with a diverse community of artists and
