Society (ISES)to Present the Affiliate with the 2009
Big Apple Core Award |
New York, NY, The New York
Metropolitan Chapter of the
International Special Events
Society (ISES)
presented the Greater New
York City Affiliate of Susan
G. Komen for the Cure® with
its 2009 Big Apple Core
Award (Celebrating
Outstanding Results from
Events) at its 2009 Big
Apple Awards gala. The
event took place at The Lighthouse,
Pier 61, Chelsea Piers in
Manhattan.
ISES is honoring the
Affiliate for successful
implementation of the Komen
NYC Race for the Cure®. The
Race, scheduled for Sunday,
September 13, 2009 in
Central Park, is entering
its 19th year. In 2008, the
event drew more than 25,000
people — including nearly
1,700 survivors — and raised
a record-breaking $5.71
million. The funds were used
to award $2.7 million in
grants to community-based
service organizations and
clinical research enrollment
trial programs in the
greater New York City
metropolitan area, and $1.3
million for national peer
reviewed research to find
the cures. Sex and the City
star and breast cancer
survivor Cynthia Nixon was
Race Grand Marshal; Mayor
Michael Bloomberg was
Honorary Race Chair.
In its announcement letter,
ISES stated, “We applaud
your efforts to put your
charity front and center
within the local and
national landscape, and to
create a platform for
facilitating a dialogue
about issues facing more and
more women each year…we are
pleased to honor your
organization for utilizing
this event as a marketing
vehicle to achieve your
goals.”
The award will be accepted
by Komen Greater NYC CEO Dr.
Dara P. Richardson-Heron.

$50 million to date. The
