The Jerry Atkins Memorial Concert
The YM-YWHA of North Jersey was proud to present Freddie Roman, Originator of "Catskills on Broadway", and Kevin Spirtas, Star of Broadway, silver screen and Television's "Days of our Lives" at the Jerry Atkins Memorial Concert. Jerry Atkins was a pioneer who came to Wayne because he believed in its growth and future. His civic pride and love for his community was evident in his leadership roles in many organizations. He was President of the Pompton Lakes Jewish Center (which became Temple Beth Shalom), the Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce. Jerry was an active Board Member at the Daughters of Miriam, and among his many community involvements were UJA and B'Nai Brith. Jerry was a founding director of the Ramapo Bank. He loved children and Atkins Chevrolet sponsored several little league teams. He was active in scouting for 60 years, serving as a director on the board for the East Coast Altaha Council. A veteran World War ll Air Corp Pilot, Captain Jerry Atkins served in the South Pacific. His interest in the Y began as a youth growing up in Paterson and continued during his entire lifetime. He was so proud that the Y came to Wayne and served so many families. It is only fitting that the Jerry Atkins Cultural Arts Endowment Program, continues to honor his memory by providing exceptional programming to the community he loved.
