Theater
lights were
dim on Monday night, but Broadway’s
Edison Ballroom was aglow.
Guests and performers of all kinds came out in
support of Arts Horizons at the Broadway
Salutes, Arts Horizons Gala.
The evening
honored theater royalty Stewart Lane
and Bonnie Comley. The five-time Tony
Award-winning couple is currently producing the
critically acclaimed Superior Donuts and
The 39 Steps. Lane and Comley brought
along their 5 beautiful children, the youngest
of which played adorably on the red carpet as
their mommy and daddy were photographed. It was
truly a family affair.
Also honored was
John Devol, the founder of Arts Horizons.
No stranger to Broadway, John started his career
as a pit-musician in the orchestra of A
Chorus Line.
Over the past 30
years, his
organization has brought Arts Education programs
to over 8 million children in the
New York Tri-state
area!
The evening
featured a number of live performances including
some of Arts Horizons own piano students from CS
214 in the South Bronx. But the guests really let loose out when
they were asked to participate in a Taiko
drumming session. Everyone in the ballroom was
having a blast playing the tiny Japanese drums,
which had been hand-decorated by some of Arts
Horizons’ kids. Mat Eisenstein,
associate conductor of Broadway hit, Next To
Normal, accompanied singer Jen Collella,
and blew the audience away with a song from the
show.
WABC’s Lauren
Glassberg was the emcee and kept the guests
entertained. She recognized the support of
event co-chairs, Diane Passage and
Peter Culver and honorary patrons Celeste
Holm, LeRoy Neiman and Hal Prince,
as well as benefit committee members such as
Jan Prokop, Rozanne Gold, Antonia
Makkos, Sandra Jordan-Bishop,
Caroline Lieberman, Cynthia Maltese,
Kipton Cronkite, Elizabeth
Halverstam, Frank Basile ,
Bonnie
Pfeifer Evans and
Catherine Saxton.
Other guests in attendance were Lee
Harris, Irina Dvorovenko and Maxim
Beloserkovsky and Ashley Lauren Fisher.
