Mark
Jackson,
dedicated
community
leader and
philanthropist,
has been
appointed
Chairman of
the Board of
Literacy
Partners.
In this
role, Mr.
Jackson will
spearhead
efforts to
develop the
organization?s
new
strategic
plan, guide
its finance
committee
and continue
advocating
on behalf of
the 3.7
million
adult New
Yorkers who
cannot read
or write
above the 5th
grade level.
Mr. Jackson
succeeds
Peter Brown,
whose
leadership
over many
years
engendered a
strong,
committed
presence for
Literacy
Partners in Manhattan.
In his new
role as
Chair of New
York City's
only
nationally
accredited
adult
literacy
program, Mr.
Jackson will
strive to
heighten
awareness of
the
important
work of
Literacy
Partners.
Mr. Jackson,
a prominent
litigator,
is Chief
Legal
Officer of
Dow Jones &
Company,
reporting
directly to
Les Hinton.
Before his
appointment
as Executive
Vice
President
and General
Counsel of
Dow Jones in
December
2007, Mr.
Jackson was
Associate
General
Counsel of
HarperCollins
Publishers.
Prior to
joining
HarperCollins,
he was a
partner in
the
litigation
department
of the Manhattan law firm of
Squadron,
Ellenoff,
Plesent &
Sheinfeld,
where he
worked from
1985 through
1997.
