The
Orthopaedic Foundation for Active Lifestyles (OFALs)
hosted its sixth anniversary gala fundraiser
on October 26, 2010 at Espace in
Manhattan. The celebratory evening honored
internationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon and
sports medicine expert James R. Andrews, 106th
Mayor of NYC David N. Dinkins and George
Kollitides II, and successfully raised over
$700,000 for the foundation’s medical research and
educational programs.
Emeril
Lagasse created and presented a bone healthy
menu with the help of nutritionists Alix Landman
and Tiffany Moreno for the event, and John
Oates performed classic Hall and Oates
favorites as well as some songs from his forthcoming
album, Mississippi Mile. Tennis
legend John McEnroe presented the honorable
David N. Dinkins with the Spirit of Active
Lifestyle Award; UFL Commissioner Michael
Huyghue presented Dr. James Andrews with
the Excellence in Sports Medicine Award; and Fox
News Anchor Jon Scott presented George
Kollitides II with the Leadership Award for
Corporate Philanthropy. Grammy Award winning
violinist Miri Ben Ari kicked off the dinner
and presentation with a spirited performance
following the cocktail reception.
Guests
including Heidi Albertsen, Jamie Drake, Ana
Carolina Victoria and Dr. Eric Balaguer,
Sharon Bush, Phil Beekman, Anita Salomon and
Mark DeMarsico, Dr. Robert Grant, Christine Farrell,
Duane Hill, Karen and Joseph Bellapianta,
Erin Tracy, Seth Greenberg, Edina Santiage Thomas
Pannazzo, Aimee Oates, Key and Dean
Facatselis and Mark Smith joined in
toasting the honorees and bid on items including a
private dinner for 10 by Emeril Lagasse
complete with wines from Emeril’s own cellar, and a
private tennis lesson with John McEnroe.
Proceeds
from the evening benefit the Orthopaedic
Foundation for Active Lifestyles, developed by
Kevin Plancher, MD, a not-for-profit
foundation whose principal mission is to promote,
support, develop and encourage research and
education concerning orthopaedic care and
advancements in technologies and treatment of
arthritis, orthopaedic injuries and musculoskeletal
