On Thursday, November 29, 2012, more
than 500 guests gathered in black and white haute
couture at the industrial chic Stage 37 for Performa's Relâche—The
Party. This elegant celebration was inspired
by the original Relâche performance co-organized by Francis
Picabia and Erik Satie in Paris in 1924.
Artist Ryan McNamara performed a
re-envisioning of the original ballet, titled Re:
Re: Re: Relâche.
The multi-sensorial experience
showcased the beauty and significance of the
Surrealist movement with live musicians, a screening
of the original film Entr'acte, costuming by
fashion designer Lika Volkova, a live auction
that included artwork by Rudolf Stingel, and a
tribute to art historian and curator Milly
Glimcher for her 2012 Pace Gallery (NY)
exhibition Happenings: New York, 1958-1963.
Funds from Relâche – The Party will
support Performa 13, the fifth edition of the
international biennial of new visual art performance
taking place throughout New York City from November
1-24, 2013. The evening event raised more than $400,000.
