More than 850 Guests Attend Event to Honor

NYU Langone Medical Center raised more
than $5.4 million in unrestricted funding at its annual
Violet Ball held at Cipriani on 42nd Street in
New York City. This year Lori Fink, chair, NYU Cancer
Institute Advisory Board, and trustee, NYU Langone, and
Laurence D. Fink, chairman and CEO, BlackRock, Inc. and
co-chair, Board of Trustees, NYU Langone, were honored for
their tireless dedication to the growth of the medical
center.
Each year the Violet Ball celebrates
NYU Langone’s continuing tradition of excellence in
education, research and patient care. Funds raised are used
to advance the medical center’s bold vision and strengthen
its role as a rich resource for the diverse communities of
New York and beyond.

Addressing an audience of more than 850
guests, Robert I. Grossman, MD,
dean and CEO of NYU Langone Medical Center said,
“From just about any perspective, we have a great deal to
celebrate tonight, which makes
this the perfect occasion to pay special tribute to two
people who have given of themselves for years to help make
our medical center as great as it can be. Lori and Larry, we
honor you tonight for the enthusiasm, wisdom and dedication
you contribute to our mission, and for all the ways you are
helping us become everything we’re capable of being.”
Lori and Laurence D. Fink have been
outstanding members of the NYU Langone community for more
than 30 years. With their remarkable generosity and
guidance, they have helped lead the institution forward to
become one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers.
Larry is co-chair of the medical center’s board (since 1995)
as well as a trustee and vice chair of New York University.
Lori is a trustee of the medical center (since 2003) and
chair of our Cancer Institute Advisory Board.
Most recently, the Finks honored their
beloved and longtime family physician, Philip K. Moskowitz,
MD, the Mamdouha S. Bobst Associate Professor of Internal
Medicine, with a contribution establishing the Philip K.
Moskowitz, MD Professor and Chair of the Department of
Neurology. Their generous commitment allowed NYU Langone to
recruit neurologist
Stephen L. Galetta, MD, to
this position last year.
The Finks’ dedication to the medical
center includes leadership gifts within pediatrics and
cancer as well as unrestricted giving, which gives NYU
Langone the ability to apply funds where they are most
needed. The Finks gave essential funding to create the Fink
Children’s Ambulatory Care Center at 32nd Street and the
Laurence D. and Lori Weider Fink Pediatric Intensive Care
Unit at Tisch Hospital and they are long-time supporters of
the Annual Fund.
Kenneth G. Langone, chair of the Board of
Trustees at NYU Langone, was Gala Chair, Dean Grossman was
the Physician Committee Chair, and
