(New
York, N.Y.) –
More
than 120 guests came to jingle and mingle with the NYC
Mission Society’s Junior Society on Tuesday, December 2nd
at a holiday party at Pilotage Fun & Hobby in Manhattan to
benefit the nonprofit’s annual toy drive for underserved
children.
The event was organized by Junior Society co-founders Brooke
Laing and Cole Rumbough, as well as members Allison Ecung,
Angelena Brack, Antonella Lemos, Liz Shafiroff, Natasha Das,
and Taylor Burns. In addition to Pilotage, event sponsors
were Insomnia Cookies, Apropo, and Mini Goodiez.
“We
are extremely grateful for our Junior Society members, who
annually display the spirit of the season by caring and
sharing,” said Elsie McCabe Thompson, President of the NYC
Mission Society. “The Junior Society, as well as others who
have contributed to our annual toy drive, recognize that so
many children in our city would welcome our support and
special gifts this time of year.”
Toys
collected at the midtown event will be added to other
seasonal toy donations made to the NYC Mission Society,
which distributes wrapped gifts to 1,500 children in
Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx this December.
The
cocktail party began around 6 PM and lasted into the evening
on the third annual #Giving Tuesday, a national day
dedicated to supporting charitable causes. Pilotage was
adorned with festive decorations lining shelves of toys.
In
the center of the store, a colorful dais decked out in reds
and greens was covered with glasses of bubby champagne and
sparkling water, chocolates, cookies and other sweets. The
room buzzed with guests chatting while they explored the
aisles, choosing toys to purchase and place in a huge,
wrapped box - that quickly began to overflow with gifts near
the entrance. Another donation box was put out and promptly
filled to the brim as well.
Pilotage will donate 20% of toy purchases to the NYC Mission
Society’s toy drive through Saturday, December 13th. If you
would like to contribute, please drop off new toys for boys
and girls – ages six to 12 years old – at Minisink, NYC
Mission Society’s flagship community center, at 646 Malcolm
X Boulevard, before the toy drive ends.
The
NYC Mission Society will hold a “wrap” party on Saturday,
December 13th, during a “Ballin’ For Toys”
Basketball Tournament, sponsored by the Harlem Chapter of
the Order of the Feather Fraternity in association with
Boyer Lodge #1. Supporters are encouraged to bring unwrapped
toys – or $20 – to benefit children and youth served by the
NYS Mission Society to the event, which runs from Noon to 5
PM.
