GOD’S LOVE WE
DELIVER MARKS ITS 15 MILLIONTH MEAL
-- The
milestone coincides with the organization's 29th anniversary
--
Brooklyn, NY (May 5, 2014) – God’s
Love We Deliver marked a significant milestone in its
history when the organization cooked and delivered its 15
millionth meal on Friday, May 2. God’s Love was joined by
many friends – old and new – including comedian, actress,
talk show host, businesswoman and God’s Love Board member
Joan Rivers who helped lid and “kachunga” the 15 millionth
meal. The milestone coincides with the 29th anniversary of
when God’s Love We Deliver’s Founder, Ganga Stone, delivered
a meal to Richard, a man living with AIDS, and the
organization was born.
Karen Pearl said, “This is another important milestone in
the history of God’s Love. We have gone from delivering one
meal to one man who was dying from AIDS, to cooking and
delivering more than 1.2 million meals each year to
thousands of people living with more than 200 different
illnesses. As we continue to grow, we stay true to our core
principles: we will never have a waiting list, we will never
charge clients for their meals, and we will deliver a meal
to a new client on the next delivery day. As being sick and
hungry is an urgent crisis, we thank all of our volunteers
and supporters who have had this 15 millionth meal – and
every single one of our nutritious, individually tailored
meals possible.”
Joan Rivers said, “I'm so honored to be a part of God's Love
We Deliver and I’m thrilled to know that over the past 29
years we have delivered an astonishing 15 million meals!
Congratulations to all, and thank you for making this
possible!”
Approximately 100 staff, volunteers and special guests
gathered at God’s Love’s headquarters in Brooklyn to
celebrate the occasion, along with former Board co-chairs
Michael Sennott and Sylvia Vogelman, God’s Love Board member
and best-selling author Linda Fairstein, Brooklyn Borough
President Eric Adams and New York City Council Members Corey
Johnson and Robert Cornegy. The group gathered in the
kitchen to make the meals, counting down the last 10 as they
were prepared. Joan Rivers and Karen Pearl then delivered a
meal of pork medallion with orange glaze sauce, sweet potato
mash, a vegetable medley and a “famous” oatmeal raisin
cookie made by the organization’s own, Chuck “The Baker”
Piekarski.
Joan delivered the 15 millionth meal to an 84 year-old God’s
Love client who is living with breast cancer. The two
talked, laughed and hugged, as it was a truly moving moment
for them both.
