God’s Love We
Deliver Receives $150,000 As One of Eleven Grants Awarded at
the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer New York
12 th
Annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer New York
Raises $6.7 Million
The 12 th annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer season
continued with the Avon
Walk for Breast Cancer New York, which raised $7 million to
advance access to care and finding a cure for breast
cancer. The Avon Walk New York attracted nearly 3,000
participants from 41 states and Washington, D.C., as
well as five countries including Bermuda, Brazil, Canada,
the United Kingdom, and the U.S.
In addition, 376 breast cancer survivors and 442 men joined
together to raise lifesaving funds for breast cancer.
God's Love We Deliver received $150,000 to provide 70,000
nutritious meals to breast cancer patients and their
families this year. God’s Love President & CEO President
Karen Pearl accepted
the award.
"God’s Love We Deliver is honored to partner with the Avon
Foundation and the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer," said
Karen Pearl. “We know that this walk, and everyone involved,
makes such an impact on the lives of those
living with breast cancer. With this year’s generous grant,
we will be able to provide people living with breast
cancer and their children and senior caregivers the
nourishment they require to get through difficult treatments
and regain their strength. We are grateful and proud to be
part of such a great event for such an important
cause.”
During the Closing Ceremony at Hudson River Park’s Pier 84,
Alice Ramos, a breast cancer survivor and Avon Walker,
shared her breast cancer journey with fellow walkers,
volunteers, family and friends. “As a healthcare
professional, I meet patients every day that impact me. One
patient that stands out most is a woman named Maria.
During a brief chance encounter in an exam room, Maria told
me breast cancer was a ‘bêncão,’ which means
‘blessing’ in Portuguese. This was something I didn’t truly
understand until earlier this year,” Ramos said.
“In January, after feeling a sharp pain in my chest, I found
out that I had two breast tumors. I was lucky enough
to have insurance, access to great medical care, and an
incredible support network. After a double mastectomy,
chemo, and radiation sessions, I’ve started to understand
what Maria meant and no longer stress about the little
things in life.
This weekend I had the honor, thrill and a bêncão of walking to help
thousands of men and women get the strength, information and
empowerment they need to fight this disease. “ Eloise
Caggiano, a breast cancer survivor and Avon Walk for Breast
Cancer Program Director, announced 11 new grants to
local breast cancer organizations, ensuring the funds raised
immediately benefit the local community.
“These grants represent only a portion of the funding that
the Avon Foundation will distribute in New York and across
the country this year, but we want to make sure the impact
of your Walk begins today. Every grant moves
us closer toward our goal of a world without breast cancer,”
