New York, NY (October 21, 2014) - New
Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYAGV)
Education Fund honored dedicated public servants
Congresswoman Carolyn
McCarthy and Cyrus
R. Vance, Jr., District
Attorney for New York County, as well as Amy
Domini, Founder and CEO, Domini Social Investments, and Joan
Wallstein, Former
NYAGV Board Chair, for their work to
reduce gun violence at
its 2014 Annual Benefit and Silent Auction in New York City
last night.
The event raised about $220,000 for school programs that
discuss gun violence.
Leah Gunn Barrett, Executive Director of NYAGV said, “Each
of our honorees has shown
outstanding leadership in the effort to reduce one of our
country’s greatest public health crises - our unacceptably
high level of death and injury due to gun violence. Our
mission is to provide public education about the common
sense practices and policies that can save lives. We thank
our many supporters who help us make sure our future is a
safer one.”
Past recipients of recognition by NYAGV include: Governor
Andrew M. Cuomo; NYS Attorney General Eric Schneiderman;
Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Chief William Kilfoil, NYS
Association of Chiefs of Police; NYC Police Commissioner Ray
Kelly; New York Police Detective Steven McDonald; the
Families of Sandy Hook Promise, and
others.
The New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Education Fund, a
501(c)3 entity, works to reduce gun violence through youth
and community education programs, including the reACTION
Youth Program, which teaches teens in New York City public
schools how to solve problems without resorting to guns and
how to become more productive members of their communities;
and community workshops to educate and inform community
members about issues relating to gun violence.
New Yorkers Against
Gun Violence, a 501(c)4 entity, is a statewide advocacy
group that advocates at the local and national levels for
laws, policies, and practices that protect New Yorkers,
particularly youth, from gun violence. |
