Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Receives $308,260
Grant from Kohl’s Department Stores to Support Safety and Injury
Prevention Programs for Kids Kohl’s Cares® collaborates with
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to host 12th annual safety and
prevention education fair LOS ANGELES (December 9, 2015)
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) safety and injury
prevention programs earned a significant grant when Kohl’s
Department Stores announced they had bestowed $308,260 to CHLA’s
nationally recognized safety and injury prevention programs for
kids. Officials from Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program
announced the grant at the annual safety and injury prevention
fair put on by the hospital and the department store chain in
Northridge, Calif. on Dec. 5. Kohl’s and CHLA share a common
conviction:
Prevention education can break the pattern of unintentional
injury. Combining instruction with raising awareness, Kohl’s and
CHLA have collaborated to promote the importance of utilizing
proper safety techniques indoors and outdoors to save the lives
of children and reduce unintentional injuries.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to once again join forces
with Kohl’s to educate our local community on day-to-day injury
prevention with young children,” says Jeffrey Upperman, MD,
CHLA’s Trauma Program director. “The ongoing generosity and
commitment to injury prevention Kohl’s has demonstrated to CHLA
helps us to collectively raise awareness and reduce tragic and
unnecessary deaths and injuries to children, especially those
that result from motor vehicle accidents.”
Since 2004, Kohl’s has donated more than $4 million to CHLA and
its initiatives. Kohl's commitment to Children’s Hospital Los
Angeles is made possible through the Kohl's Cares® cause
merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5
books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits
children’s health and education programs nationwide, including
hospital partnerships like this one.
The annual educational fair that was held at Kohl’s storefront
in Northridge taught children and families a variety of safety
tips to protect families during sports activities, in cars, as
pedestrians and in the home. At the event, Kohl’s offered
families inspections of their car seats by certified car seat
technicians and some even received a free replacement car seat.
“Car crashes are a leading cause of death among children,” says
Helen Arbogast, MPH, CHES, CPSTI, manager of CHLA’s Injury
Prevention and Trauma Program. “Our goal at today’s fair
was to educate our local families, especially parents, and
provide them with information and resources to reduce such child
injuries.” About Kohl’s Kohl’s (NYSE: KSS) is a leading
specialty department store with 1,166 stores
in 49 states.
With a commitment to inspiring and empowering families to lead
