March 17, 2015 - Today in Washington D.C., actor Pierce
Brosnan, NBA
Hall-of-Famer and cancer survivor Kareem
Abdul-Jabbar and
actress Marcia
Cross joined
the Capitol Hill launch of an unprecedented joint effort to
boost the nation’s investment in groundbreaking cancer
research. |
They appeared on behalf of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), which
is partnering with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action
Network (ACS CAN) on the “One Degree” campaign to urge
Congress to increase funding for the National Institutes of
Health by $6 billion over two years, including $1 billion
for the National Cancer Institute. One Degree underscores
the fact that we all know someone with cancer – a relative,
a friend, a co-worker – and many of us have faced the
disease ourselves. The effort brings the entertainment
community together with grassroots advocates nationwide to
emphasize the lifesaving importance of cancer research. |
ACS CAN and SU2C have launched a website, OneDegreeProject.org,
which invites members of the public to share their One
Degree by entering the name of a loved one with cancer into
an electronic petition that will be sent to Congress. |
Below please find video footage from the event, including
moving parts of Pierce, Kareem and Marcia’s speeches about
their personal One Degrees of separation. Also below are
select photos as well as a link to the full photo gallery.
We would love for you to consider coverage on behalf of
Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), American Cancer Society Cancer
Action Network (ACS CAN) and the “One Degree” campaign. |
