The New York Police
and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund-- founded in
1985 by Daniel J. "Rusty" Staub-- is a non-profit
organization dedicated to assisting the families of New York
City Firefighters, Police Officers, Port Authority Police,
and EMS personnel killed in the line of duty. We take pride
in "answering the call" as our fallen heroes have done to
protect our city. Immediately upon the death of one of these
first responders, we provide the grieving family with
$25,000 and every year thereafter, that family becomes part
of our family and receives an annual distribution of $4,000
for the remainder of each widow or widower's life. Aside
from the financial assistance, the Benefit Fund also
provides a network of support and gatherings for our
families to connect and cope. Relying solely on the support
of private contributions, the Benefit Fund has distributed
over $126 million to the families of fallen first responders
since its inception. In 2012 alone, the Benefit Fund
distributed over $2.4 million to over 600 families.
