Peter Stark, Boston Ballet
and more!
Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) – the world’s
largest ballet scholarship competition – is bringing together
their extensive repertoire of alumni and affiliated dance
professionals to offer an array of free online ballet classes.
Starting Monday March 23, 2020 with Luca Masala (Artistic
Director of Monaco’s Princess Grace Academy) and
continuing Tuesday March 24, 2020 with Sasha De Sola (YAGP
Alumna and Principal Dancer at San Francisco Ballet). Upcoming
classes include Maria Khoreva (Mariinsky
Ballet), Kathryn Morgan (Miami City Ballet), Peter
Stark (Boston Ballet) and TONY-nominated Broadway
performer Karine Plantadit (YAGP Judge and
Emcee, former dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance
Theater) who will teach a special course on the Horton technique
for ballet dancers. As the YAGP community practices social
distancing, their social media channels (Instagram, Facebook,
YouTube) will provide these daily classes at 12pm EST, and they
will remain available on each channel permanently.
YAGP’s mission remains - to ensure the future of dance. “A lot
of people are posting guided dance instruction, but it can be
hard for parents and for kids to determine whom to trust, and
how to get quality training from home,” says YAGP Founder and
Artistic Director, Larissa Saveliev. “As a
global network for dance, we are in a unique position to bring
together a group of world-class professionals, whose expertise
meets the high standard of dance education that we’ve upheld
since our founding in 1999. We hope these classes will provide
young dancers with a great challenge to work on while they are
at home.”
These online ballet classes are an addition to YAGP’s existing
roster of online original educational programming, including
YAGP’s existing library of master classes, YAGP’s Q&A series
“Ask the Expert”, and YAGP’s “Tips on Technique” short video
series, featuring mastery of a particular move or exercise.
