CIRCLE ANNUAL SPRING LUNCHEON
“ARTS AND THE BRAIN: JOYFUL ENGAGEMENTS”
Spring Luncheon Honored Dr. Debra F. Sukin, President and
CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital
The
sold-out Blue Bird Circle Annual Luncheon was a resounding
success, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of supporters
committed to advancing pediatric neurological research and
care. This year's event raised over $300,000. Leading the
helm were Maggie Austin and Ellen Stough, both of whom have
been dedicated champions of The Blue Bird Circle's mission
to provide "hope, love, and healing for children with
neurological disorders."
Founded in 1923 by a group of visionary women, The Blue Bird
Circle has spent over a century building a legacy of
compassion and innovation in Houston, with a far-reaching
impact across the globe. The luncheon celebrated the
organization's remarkable achievements while raising crucial
funds to support the following vital
medical programs:
• The Blue Bird Circle Clinic for Pediatric Neurology
at
Texas Children’s Hospital
• The Blue Bird Circle Clinical Research Center at
Texas Children’s Hospital
• The Blue Bird Circle Developmental Neurogenetics
Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine
• The Blue Bird Circle Rett Center at Baylor College
of Medicine
• The Blue Bird Circle Clinic for Advancing Treatments
Fund at the Duncan Neurological Research Institute
These initiatives are at the forefront of pediatric
neurological care, offering life-changing treatments and
advancing groundbreaking research for children with serious
neurological disorders.
Special Guest Speaker:
This year’s luncheon featured acclaimed Broadway actor
Miguel Cervantes, known for his portrayal of Alexander
Hamilton in the Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton.
Cervantes captivated the audience with a stunning
performance of iconic songs from the show, transporting
guests to the world of Hamilton. Ernie Manouse, Master of
Ceremonies, interviewed Cervantes and he shared his deeply
personal journey, movingly recounting the heartbreaking loss
of his infant daughter, who battled epilepsy. His powerful
story of hope, perseverance, and advocacy for epilepsy
research left many in the audience in tears.
Cervantes and his wife Kelly are passionate advocates for
epilepsy research and have joined forces with CURE Epilepsy,
an organization dedicated to finding a cure for the disease.
His courage and tireless advocacy have made an indelible
mark on the movement to raise awareness and fund critical
research.
Special Remarks:
The luncheon also featured Dr. Debra F. Sukin, President and
CEO of Texas Children’s Hospital, who delivered special
remarks. Dr. Sukin, a distinguished leader in pediatric
healthcare, highlighted the importance of continued research
and medical advancements in pediatric neurology. She shared
her own personal journey with her children and has made a
personal commitment to improving the lives of children with
neurological disorders.
