BroadwayHD
celebrated its 10th anniversary at the
SVA Theatre
with a star-studded evening.
The event began with a red carpet and a
screening of highlights from the Pippin
50th Anniversary Concert. It also
included a conversation with Tony Award
winners Stephen Schwartz, Alex Newell,
Ben Vereen, John Rubinstein, and others.
Founded by Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie
Comley, BroadwayHD has evolved from a
vision into a global streaming platform,
allowing theater lovers worldwide to
access hundreds of live performances on
demand. Lane and Comley see BroadwayHD
as a bridge to live theater, increasing
curiosity that leads to ticket sales for
in-person shows. The service, which
offers Broadway productions via
streaming, also serves as a gateway for
those unable to attend live theater.
The Pippin 50th Anniversary Concert,
filmed in London at Theatre Royal Drury
Lane, features a star-studded cast,
including Alex Newell as the Leading
Player, and a 25-piece orchestra. The
concert stars Jac Yarrow, Patricia
Hodge, Lucie Jones, Cedric Neal, and
Zizi Strallen. Pippin is currently
streaming on BroadwayHD.
The evening featured performances of
Magic to Do by Newell and Corner of the
Sky by Yarrow, followed by a panel
discussion moderated by Julie James. The
panel, including Schwartz, Newell,
Vereen, and others, shared stories and
reflected on Pippin’s legacy. Vereen
remarked, “Bob Fosse would be quite
proud… his style is still sprinkled
through the choreography.” The event
concluded with a sing-along to Patricia
Hodge’s No Time at All performance.
