The Museum of Arts and Design's (MAD)
Luminaries Committee hosted a Summer
Loft Party at the Steelcase Showroom
rooftop overlooking Columbus Circle and
Central Park.
“MAD Luminaries represent the next
generation of philanthropists who are
making it possible for our creative
contemporaries to develop their artistic
practices through programs, workshops,
and exhibitions.” said Dana Boll, MAD
Deputy Director of Advancement, “We are
joined tonight by current and past MAD
Artists in Residence in our Artist
Studios program, the only of its kind in
New York City.” Noted Elizabeth Koehn,
MAD Curator, “MAD is a community that
grows around artists, where we see
people like Anthony Akinbola complete a
residency that resulted in us taking in
one of his brilliant works into our
collection, or Saya Woolfalk, who was in
residence here before returning as the
center of last year’s blockbuster
retrospective exhibition, Emphatic
Universe, which is now touring to five
venues.”
"We come together tonight as a community
to enjoy this view together, to gain and
share perspective, and reiterate our
mutual care and devotion to keeping the
arts alive and well in this city and
here in our very own neighborhood," said
Boll. Guests enjoyed music by DJ Erol
Sabadosh until sunset, with cocktails
and hors d'oeuvres. The evening also
offered an opportunity to mingle with
artists in the MAD studio program,
including Nima Jeizan, Joel Gaitan,
Kazue Taguchi, Esperanza Cortes, Emiko
Shinozaki, and Kat Ryals. "These artists
work on site in studios open to the
public, allowing our visitors to
experience the creative process
unfolding in real time," said Boll. At
the end of the evening, attendees were
invited to a private tour of the ongoing
Haas Brothers exhibition, running
through August 16.

Design’s young patrons group for members
ages 21–45 who support contemporary
makers working across craft, design, and
material-based practice. The program
offers access through curator-led tours,
studio visits, workshops, and events
connecting members directly with artists
and exhibitions. It builds a
philanthropic community supporting
