On April 11, 2016, the Police Athletic
League’s 18th Annual
Legal Profession Luncheon honored two distinguished New
Yorkers, Hon.
Barbara S. Jones (Ret.), Zuckerman
Spaeder LLP, and Andrew
J. Levander, Dechert LLP, with The
Robert M. Morgenthau Award. The
event, held at The Pierre Hotel in Manhattan, welcomed 550
guests and raised $600,000 for the nonprofit. Special guests
included NYC Police Commissioner William
J. Bratton, Robert J. McGuire and John
A. Catsimatidis. Luncheon
Chairs were Steven M. Cohen, MacAndrews & Forbes
Incorporated and John F. Savarese, Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen &
Katz.
Hon.
Barbara S. Jones (Ret.) began
her career with the Department of Justice as an organized
crime prosecutor in Manhattan in 1973 and was the first
woman named to head a Strike Force as Chief of the Manhattan
Organized Crime Strike Force in 1984. During her time at
Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, Judge Jones focused on arbitrations,
mediations, internal investigations and monitor-ships. She
continues to work in public service as the Chair of the
Response Panel to Sexual Assaults in the Military. Andrew
J. Levanderis Chair of Dechert’s Policy Committee and a
partner in the white collar and securities litigation group.
He represents parties in securities fraud and commercial
litigation and criminal and regulatory investigations. He
served as an adjunct professor of trial practice at New York
University, and has lectured at many prestigious law
schools, The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the ABA White
Collar Crime Institute, SIFMA, the Practicing Law Institute,
and various bar associations and government agencies.
New York City’s Police Athletic
League is the first and finest civilian-run PAL in the
country. Founded in 1914, PAL has served the city’s young
people for over 100 years. PAL provides recreational,
educational, cultural and social activities to 35,000 boys
and girls annually. It is also the city’s largest,
