Truck Driven, Signed by the 43rd President
of the United States Raises Funds to Help Military Families
Scottsdale, AZ (January 22, 2013) – George W. Bush’s
2009 Ford
F-150 King Ranch 4x4 SuperCrew Pickup Truck,
used
exclusively on the Bush’s Crawford, TX ranch and purchased
after his departure from the White House, was purchased for
$300,000 at the 42nd Annual
Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction over the weekend by
Rick Hendrick of
Hendrick Motors in Charlotte, NC.
The proceeds from the truck, which boasts the signature of
the 43rd President of the United States on the
dashboard, will benefit
Fisher
House Foundation, which
constructs comfort homes to provide free, temporary housing
to the families of service members receiving medical care at
Veterans Affairs and military hospitals around the
world.
“In supporting Fisher House,
you are supporting our veterans,” said President Bush. “And
in supporting our veterans, you’re helping America.”
“President Bush is a great
patriot, and someone who has been a strong advocate for our
military and their families for years,” said Ken Fisher,
Chairman & CEO of Fisher House. “We are honored to have his
support and appreciate his friendship.”
Last year, the
Barrett-Jackson auction
sold a New Holland tractor owned by Jay Leno and signed by
George W. Bush for $535,000, with proceeds also going to
Fisher House Foundation.
“Charity work is part of our business philosophy and helping
the Fisher House Foundation to raise funds for their charity
is something we are happy to do,” said Craig Jackson,
Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson Auction Company.
“Barrett-Jackson offers a unique platform for the Fisher
House Foundation to spread the word about their efforts. We
are so proud to support the many men and women that protect
our country,” said Steve Davis, President of
Barrett-Jackson.
About Fisher House
Fisher House Foundation is best known for the network of
comfort homes built on the grounds of major military and VA
medical centers nationwide and in Europe. Fisher Houses
are beautiful homes, donated to the military and Department
of Veterans Affairs. These homes enable family members to
be close to a loved one at the most stressful time - during
the hospitalization for a combat injury, illness or
disease.
Located in close proximity to the medical center or hospital
it serves, each Fisher House consists of between 8 and 21
suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a
common kitchen, laundry facilities, spacious dining room and
an inviting living room with a library and toys for
children. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is no
fee to stay in a Fisher House. Since 1990, the Foundation
has saved military, veterans and their families an estimated
$200 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and
transportation.
Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles
Program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family
members to the bedside of injured service members as well as
the Hotels for Heroes program using donated hotel points to
allow family members to stay at hotels near hospitals where
a Fisher House is not available. The Foundation also
manages a grant program that supports other military
charities and provides scholarships for military children,
spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.
