Gala & Cultural Leadership Awards

The American Federation of Arts held its 2013 Gala &
Cultural Leadership Awards on Tuesday, October 29,
at the Metropolitan Club in New York. This year, the
AFA honored Eugene V. Thaw, the
esteemed art dealer, collector, and author, and Kehinde
Wiley, one of the most original portrait
painters working today. Directors of two of New York
City’s most respected institutions, William
Griswold of
the Morgan Library & Museum and Arnold
Lehman of
the Brooklyn Museum, introduced each respectively.
Approximately 175 artists, museum directors, art
collectors, and philanthropists came together at the
Metropolitan Club to celebrate these individuals and the
AFA’s mission.

The American
Federation of Arts is
a nonprofit institution that organizes art
exhibitions for presentation in museums around the
world, publishes exhibition catalogues, and develops
various educational programs. The AFA’s mission is
to enrich the public’s experience of art and
understanding of culture by organizing and traveling
