AT OCT. 19 MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON & BOUTIQUE
SANTA MONICA, CA (Oct. 20, 2016) – The John Wayne Cancer
Institute Auxiliary honored Sheri Rosenblum with the Angel
Award and Jason Jeralds with the Public Service Award
at its Annual Membership Luncheon and Boutique October 19, 2016,
at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Prior to the
luncheon, more than 300 guests enjoyed a boutique featuring fine
and costume jewelry, clothing, accessories and other items.
Vendors donated a portion of their proceeds to fund life-saving
research at the Institute.
Event chairs were Auxiliary board members Marisol Zarco and
Katie Lewis who welcomed guests into the Grand Ballroom, before
introducing Sister Maureen Craig, Saint John’s Health Center
Foundation chaplain, who offered the invocation.
For the fourth consecutive year,
actor, producer, writer and currently president and co-owner of
Amplus Real Estate Investment Company, Gerard DiNome, served as
the afternoon’s host. Gerard noted the accomplishments of the
auxiliary over the past 34 years “as extraordinary. We cannot
begin to count the number of lives that have and will be saved,
thanks in no small measure to the dollars you’ve raised to
support cancer research.”
Anita Swift, president of the
John Wayne Cancer Institute Auxiliary and granddaughter of the
late, eponymous actor, paid homage to the Institute noting “I
know how proud my grandfather would be that we remain one of the
most successful cancer research centers in the world. The
breakthroughs made here continue to have a global impact.”
Melanie Wayne, auxiliary
treasurer and CFO, and granddaughter of John Wayne and members
of the Wayne family, presented a check on behalf of the
auxiliary in the amount of $454,520 to the Institute’s chairman
of the board Patrick Wayne and the chief executive of Providence
Saint John’s Health Center and John Wayne Cancer Institute,
Marcel Loh. In accepting the check, Patrick Wayne, the late
actor’s son, thanked the auxiliary and everyone in the room and
noted, “There is truly strength in numbers and I know we won’t
stop until we find a cure!”
Gloria Gebbia, president of the Associates for Breast and
Prostate Cancer Research (ABCs), presented the Angel Award
to her friend and honoree Sheri Rosenblum. Rosenblum has been
a dedicated member of the John Wayne Cancer Institute auxiliary
since 1986. She has held multiple leadership positions on the
auxiliary board and is one of its strongest supporters. She has
served as Parent Teacher Association president, president of
Haven House, vice president of the ABCs and has raised funds for
the Kidney Foundation.
Patrick Wayne presented the Public Service Award to Jason
Jeralds who has been a longtime friend and supporter of the John
Wayne Cancer Institute. As the owner of Tustin Brewing Company
in Orange County, Jeralds organizes the annual Tustin Brewery
Golf Tournament, now in its 10th year, to raise funds
and awareness for cancer research at the Institute. This year,
Tustin Brewery celebrated its 20th anniversary with a
party where all proceeds benefited the Institute. Jason has two
children with his wife Tera. When he and Tera were expecting
their first child, his father was battling cancer. Thanks to the
treatment Jason’s father received at the Institute, he was able
to witness the birth of his grandchild.
