The Hundred Year
Association of New York
has selected Michael R.
Bloomberg as the
recipient of its 75th
Richard A. Cook Gold
Medal Award, presented
annually to remarkable
New York City leaders
“in recognition of
outstanding
contributions to the
city.” Bloomberg is the
fifth mayor to receive
the award, which was
also won by three-term
mayors Fiorello H.
LaGuardia and Robert F.
Wagner, as well as
William O’Dwyer and
Rudolph W. Giuliani.
Mayor Bloomberg’s
philanthropic
generosity, strong sense
of civic responsibility,
and considerable
accomplishments in
public service were
cited in selecting him
for the honor.
Additionally, the
Association applauded
Bloomberg’s anti-poverty
campaign and PlaNYC —
his ground-breaking
environmental initiative
for fostering a
sustainable New York.
The mayor’s
contributions to
affordable housing,
public health, and
education initiatives
were also noted.
The Richard A. Cook Gold
Medal is being presented
during a gala fundraiser
on November 19 at
Capitale. The evening
begins with a cocktail
reception, followed by
dinner and dancing.
Donations will support
the non-profit and its
public service awards
and college scholarship
programs.
Co-chairing the event
are
Robert R. Douglass,
the 1999 Gold Medal
honoree (Milbank, Tweed,
Hadley & McCloy),
Robert P. Kelly
(The Bank of New York
Mellon), and
Terry Lundgren
(Macy’s). Dinner
Committee members
include
Kenneth
L. Davis, MD
(Mount Sinai Medical
Center),
Michele Gerber Klein
(Bertha and Isaac
Liberman Foundation),
Diana Taylor
(Wolfensohn & Company)
and
Charles J. Urstadt,
the 2002 Gold Medal
honoree (Urstadt Biddle
Properties).
“The Hundred Year
Association has led the
way in public-private
partnerships in our
City, and on behalf of
everyone in and out of
government who is trying
to think outside the box
to make the City a
better place I am
honored to accept this
award," said Mayor
Bloomberg.
“We are pleased that
Mayor Bloomberg is
accepting the Richard A.
Cook Gold Medal,” said
Clinton Blume III,
president of The Hundred
Year Association. “We
look forward to toasting
him while also bringing
attention to the
Association’s mission of
preserving the heritage
of public and private
organizations that have
been in existence for a
century or more.”

benefiting the city and
its citizens today. The
Association’s services
and activities are
community-minded and
educational in nature.
In addition to assisting
member organizations in
celebrating milestones
with special events and
activities providing a
public purpose, the
Association is best
known for granting
financial awards to New
York City municipal
employees who help
improve the city through
their outstanding
achievements and public
service. Additionally,
we sponsor college
scholarships for sons
and daughters of civil
employees who
